Intermittent power production from renewable energy sources creates challenges for the stability of the power system. In the initial phase of the German Energiewende, the problems had to be solved by the system operators using traditional dispatchable technologies. With higher penetration rates it is expected that the renewable power production adjusts more to the requirements of the system by becoming more "system-friendly".
